Shulim Rubin began his own architectural practice in Montreal in 1980 having worked in Halifax and in Boston.
His practice grew from a small 2-person office to an office with 10 employees including architects, draftspersons, designers. His jobs varied from retail to residential to community-based.
Having studied at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and at the Technical University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Rubin was interested in modernist architecture. In 1964 he was awarded an architectural grant from the CMHC and travelled throughout the USA with eight other architectural students seeing significant architectural projects by Frank Lloyd Wright, Greene and Greene, and Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill.

The challenge in each project is to respond to the demands presented by the site, the existing conditions, the budget and the client needs. Each situation presents an opportunity for creativity and inspiration. Style is not the issue but sensitivity to scale, materials and proportion are important.
Old buildings can be sensitively reimagined and suited to our modern needs. New buildings allow us to create new spaces, materials and lighting. In all I prefer timeless design that slowly becomes more personalized through time.

Shulim Rubin is an Architect, with 50 years experience.
He has completed over 40 commercial projects and over 30 residential projects, new construction and renovation
He is experienced not only in architectural design but also enjoys being involved in the details of interior design: lighting, cabinetry, custom furnishings, wrought iron work, and even landscaping. Although he prefers modern architecture, he enjoys the challenge of historic preservation, restoration and renovation.
Rubin enjoys assisting clients achieve their dreams, while working within budgets. Client input has always been an important part of the process for a successful project.
